About Us

Our Mission

Our mission is to aid in the transition between middle school and high school, so students are prepared with study and life skills to excel in high school.

Scholar Readiness looks to empower student’s interests in high school, build a foundation for success after high school, and help students explore different extracurriculars to find what they want to pursue

Our Story

When my brother completed middle school, he discovered that he lacked the necessary resources and support to thrive in his new high school environment. Moving from a small and less competitive middle school to a rapidly evolving and competitive high school setting, he found himself unprepared for the cultural and academic shifts.

Despite being intellectually prepared, the sudden surge in exams, essays, and overall academic expectations still left him grappling to keep up.I also had a similar experience when I transitioned to high school, especially as it was a remote setting where teachers focused solely on teaching and couldn't offer guidance on life and learning skills.

Motivated by these experiences, I am inspired to establish Scholar Readiness, an initiative aimed at alleviating the anxiety associated with transitioning from middle to high school. Through this program, I aspire to equip students with effective study techniques and essential life skills, empowering them to not only overcome challenges but also to flourish in their new academic journey.

Meet the Founder

Hello! I am Avery Mak, the founder and CEO of Scholar Readiness. I started Scholar Readiness as an initiative to facilitate the growth of middle school students, after my experiences in serving my community. I love public policy: I work for several nonprofits and hope to become a lawyer and a judge in the future. Other than public policy, I am extremely passionate about equitable education and have devoted 500 hours of community service to providing accessible education for underserved families. I hope to continue growing Scholar Readiness and benefiting those in need.
